NRAO operates the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope (GBT), the world's largest fully steerable single aperture antenna. ![]()
Several other telescopes exist at the Green Bank site, including the first generation radio telescopes. ![]()
No matter if you are a serious astronomy student or out for a relaxing stroll, the NRAO grounds take you a different world..., a different galaxy!!
NRAO Science Center

NRAO's new 25,000 square foot Science Center opened in May 2003. In addition to providing fun learning experiences for the public, the educational programs focus on K-12 students in West Virginia, and surrounding states. Field trip experiences are created that meet national science education standards and state-based science learning goals.

- Labor Day through October: Weds-Sunday
- tours every hour from 9-6,
- Nov.-May: Weds- Sunday 10-5,
- tours at 11,1, and 3.
- Public and school tours are free
